Battalion Commander

The Battalion Commander is the highest-ranking cadet in the JROTC unit. This cadet is the primary leader and is responsible for the overall success and discipline of the battalion. The Battalion Commander is the central hub for all battalion activities, acting as the main point of contact for the Senior Army Instructor and other staff members. They set the tone for the entire unit, overseeing all training, planning, and operations. This role demands exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to effectively delegate tasks to their staff and company commanders.

Battalion Executive Officer

CMAJ Griffin, Tamyra

The Battalion Executive Officer (XO) is the second-in-command and the chief of the battalion staff. The XO’s main responsibility is to manage and coordinate the work of the staff sections (S-1 through S-5). They ensure all staff members are working together efficiently to support the commander’s vision and the battalion’s mission. The XO is essentially the operational backbone of the unit, making sure that plans are well-developed and executed smoothly. They also serve as the commander’s principal advisor and are prepared to take command of the battalion in the commander’s absence.

Battalion Command Sergeant Major

The Battalion Command Sergeant Major (CSM) is the senior enlisted cadet in the battalion and the principal advisor to the Battalion Commander on all matters concerning the enlisted corps. The CSM is the keeper of standards, focusing on discipline, uniform wear, drill and ceremonies, and overall cadet morale. They work closely with company first sergeants to ensure that all enlisted cadets are trained, motivated, and adhering to JROTC standards. The CSM is a role model who leads from the front, embodying the core values of the Army and the JROTC program. They are the voice of the enlisted cadets, bridging the gap between the command staff and the rest of the battalion.
