JROTC has arguably, one of the most rigorous and effective career-related leadership curriculums. JROTC’s leadership development curriculum begins with instruction about leadership theory, which teaches Cadets motivational principles, individual and group management practices, decision making skills, and interpersonal relations. As JROTC Cadets progress through the program, they experience opportunities to lead other Cadets. Cadets follow a chain of command, enabling lower classmen to observe the upper classmen lead, teach and make decisions, before assuming the role themselves. Observing leaders in action enables Cadets to experience authentic responsibility for others, which can instill in them genuine concern for the success of the larger group; a key component of effective leadership.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses were created by the College Board that allow students to take college-level classes while completing their high school degree. Palatka Jr.-Sr. High School will offer 16 AP course, pending enrollment numbers.

AVID’S Mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. The program helps students learn organizational, study, and critical thinking skills while connecting them to peer and college tutors.

Students have multiple options under Florida law to earn a high school diploma. Most students at Palatka High School earn the standard 24 credit or 18 credit diploma. Students entering in 9th grade are placed on the 24 credit diploma track and select classes toward that diploma. Students may at any time choose to move to the 18 credit diploma and should meet with their school counselor if they wish to change to that track.
