Melanie Rojas represents PJSHS at Clay Electric Youth Tour- The Clay Electric Youth Tour Contest awards four high school juniors an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C, in June. A contestant would be a high school junior chosen out of the whole school to participate in the competition. This year, I was able to have the honor of being selected as Palatka High's contestant. Twenty-six high schools would travel all-expenses paid to Tallahassee to compete for the trip to Washington, for the competition we would have to write a speech about what moment in American history we would want to be a part of, and take a written quiz about Clay Electrics History. While in Tallahassee, we would also take trips to see monuments, museums, and legislative buildings. The monuments that we visited were so interesting, like the old state capitol building for example. I learned so much about the capitol's history and saw how much they had changed the state capitol from the one we used so many years ago. In a museum, we went into an auditorium and saw many different things like science experiments, and an educational film on endangered baby animals. On the trip, I was able to meet so many great people and got to build friendships with the other students there as well. It was a lot of fun in Tallahassee and a great opportunity to learn about the government along with Clay Electric's role as cooperatives. It's truly one of those once in a lifetime opportunities.

Giving Tuesday reminds us that we have a campus care closet for our students who present specific needs at times. It may not happen as often as it would at an elementary school, but we do try to keep essentials on hand for students who find themselves in a jam during the school day. If you are interested in helping with the Panther Closets please contact Mrs. Parnell. You may also send donations in anytime. We often need items like new or clean gently worn socks, jackets/hoodies/sweaters, and shoes. Thank you for your comforting support!
